1-on-1 Beginner Coaching
One player, one coach. Grip, ready position, forehand, backhand, rallying, and a serve — at your pace, with no group pressure.
Beginner tennis coaching · John King
*only teaches children
Baseline is beginner-only tennis coaching for children ages 5–18. No group clinics, no jargon, no pressure — just an active tournament player who remembers what it's like to miss the ball completely, teaching you how to hit it.

Philosophy
Beginners only
This isn't a side gig between advanced students. If you're just starting out, you're exactly who I coach.
One thing at a time
We won't fix your grip, stance, and swing in the same session. Small changes, held long enough to stick.
Play from day one
You'll hit real balls in the first ten minutes. Learning to rally is the point — everything else serves that.
Pricing
I only coach 1-on-1. No clinics, no packages, no upsells — just an hour of focused beginner work. At $25/hour, it's about $20 less than most local coaches, and you still get a dedicated session built around you. I take Venmo and cash.

On court
“I remember what it's like to miss the ball completely. That's why I teach beginners.”
The coach
I'm a 15-year-old tournament player — 8.6 UTR, playing weekly competitive matches. I played #2 Varsity for the 2026 Georgetown Prep tennis team, which won the IAC championship, and I'm ranked #23 in the state for 16-and-under USTA. I love working with beginners — this is a better fit than a coach who forgot what their first week felt like.
